Uzbekistan is developing long-term regional development concepts

On June 27, Tashkent hosted a workshop on the development of long-term regional development concepts for representatives of territorial divisions of government agencies with the participation of specialists from the Center for Economic Research (CER), the National Project Management Agency (NPMA) and the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IFMR).

The workshop was focused around disscussion and explaination of the methodology for developing long-term regional development concepts in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 18, 2017 No. PP-3437 "On the introduction of a new procedures for the formation and financing of state development programs of the Republic of Uzbekistan", as well as tasks defined in the Strategy of Action on the five priority development directions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021.

To attain the goals set in this area, long-term concepts for the development of industries and regions are being developed up to 2030. It is expected that the concepts of the regions together with concepts of the sectors will serve as a management tool for the further formation of investment project portfolios.

CER experts noted that the heads of local and regional offices need to look at the existing infrastructure, economic management and available resources from the perspective of the development potential, the needs of the local population and the interests of potential investors.

It should be reminded that CER has already begun work on providing methodological and scientific and practical assistance for the development of the Concept of long-term development of the regions of Uzbekistan. At the moment, CER is conducting an in-depth study on the socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
